  • Post Category:Apple TV+

LG Smart TV owners will soon gain access to content from the Apple TV+ streaming service, as LG has announced customers with 2018 and 2019 LG TV models receive the Apple TV app later this year.

The announcement was just one of a number of announcements from LG at CES 2020. The update will allow LG television viewers to watch Apple TV content directly from their Smart TV, without the need to rely on using AirPlay, or needing an Apple TV or other set-top streaming devices.

The Apple TV app will allow viewers to use the Apple TV app to subscribe to the Apple TV+ streaming service, as well as other Apple TV channels. The app will also include access to the iTunes video library, which offers over 100,000 films and television shows.

The update will be for 2018 and 2019 LG models, in addition to the new televisions the company will produce this year. LG did not announce an exact date for the Apple TV rollout, only that it will take place sometime this year.

LG rolled out support for AirPlay 2 and HomeKit to select 2019 TV models in July 2019.

LG also announced 13 new LG OLED models, led by three new art-inspired GX Gallery series 4K Ultra HD TVs, 88- and 77-inch class Real 8K models and an all-new OLED screen size – 48-inch.

Lucifer Final Season: Dennis Haysbert to Play God!

  • Post Category:Netflix

Lucifer’s final season is bringing the big man upstairs into the narrative.

The Netflix drama has added Dennis Haysbert to the cast for the fifth and final season, according to Entertainment Weekly.

Despite there being no clarity on whether he will recur or be a series regular, the outlet notes that he “will appear throughout” the final season.

Dennis Haysbert Poses on Red Carpet

No other details have been revealed at this stage.

If you watch Lucifer online, you know God has been mentioned multiple times throughout the run of the series.

Author Neil Gaiman previously lended his voice to the charactr during Lucifer Season 3, while Timothy Omundson appeared during Lucifer Season 2 as a man who claimed to be God.

The addition of Haysbert to the cast also means the series will be staging a 24 reunion. Haysbert and D.B. Woodside starred as brothers on the Kiefer Sutherland drama.

Lucifer Season 4 Poster

Given that Lucifer likes to take a comedic approach, it’s likely the series will tip the hat in some way to them starring alongside one another on the FOX series.

On the small screen, Haysbert most recently recurred on NBC’s one-and-done Reverie, and was also attached to star on the CBS pilot Surveillance, but the network decided against ordering it to series.

Haysbert is also well-known for his series regular role on CBS drama The Unit.

Lucifer initially aired on FOX for three seasons, but the network canceled it after some ratings erosion.

Netflix later swooped in to save the day and revived the series for a fourth season. In the aftermath of that season debuting, all eyes were on Netflix to renew the series.

That renewal arrived — with a major caveat. The streamer was bringing the series to a close with a 10-episode final season.

After fans reacted negatively to the news, it was revealed that the episode order had been upped to 16.

It’s still unclear whether these episodes will roll out in one batch, or if the network wants to give it the split season treatment that has worked for many of its shows.

Lucifer has been a popular series since its inception, so it makes sense that fans would be less than impressed by the decision to end the series.

One fan went as far as starting a petition to keep the series on the air.

“It had been announced that season 5 of Lucifer will be it’s last and final,” the petition’s creator, who is going by the name Lee Morningstar on Change.org says on the website.

“This show has many more seasons left in it. I can’t understand why they would choose not to continue with the fan reaction of the cancellation after season 3 and season 4 great reviews.”

The petition’s creator continued, “So please fellow lucifans join me and unite once more to show Netflix what the fans want and how many of us there are.”

This reponse paved the way for co-showrunner IIdy Modrovich to respond.

“Sorry I’ve been quiet on this issue,” Modrovich said on Twitter in response to a fan.

“Truth is, it’s cuz I’m torn. So much of me could do #Lucifer forever. But I’m also immensely grateful YOU & @netflix gave us the chance to continue our story together.”

“And I know S5 is going to be a love letter to our #Lucifans so… 🥰❤️😈.”

Apple TV app will hit LG's webOS televisions this year

  • Post Category:Apple TV+

So you can watch all the Apple TV+ you want without having to use other hardware.

Tucked into LG’s CES 2020 press release is a a small, but important — if ultimately unsurprising — paragraph.

Apple’s Aple TV app is coming to LG’s television this year. That’ll allow LG TV owners to subscribe to and watch Apple TV+ shows like The Morning Show, See and For All Mankind — to say nothing of all the new shows hitting the premium subscription service — without having to plug in any external hardware like an Apple TV 4K, Roku or Amazon fire TV.

The other bit of news from the announcment is that LG’s 2018 and 2019 models also will receive the Apple TV app, so it’s not just the newest TVs that’ll get to partake.

Here’s the graf in question:

LG’s award-winning webOS smart TV platform will bring 2020 LG OLED and LG NanoCell TVs a plethora of programming from the constantly-growing number of top global content providers through apps and services such as Disney+, Netflix and CBS All Access. New for 2020, the Apple TV app allows customers to subscribe and watch Apple TV+ and Apple TV channels as well as access their iTunes video library and buy or rent more than 100,000 films and TV shows. Customers with 2018 and 2019 LG TV models will also be able to enjoy the Apple TV app this year.

That’s not to saw that owners of LG TVs haven’t been able to watch Apple TV+ shows. The big news out of CES 2019 (which seems more like a decade ago) was that the Apple TV app would spread from beyond the Apple platform to most major platforms, but in the meantime it’s been available via AirPlay, which also made the leap from behind the Apple wall in 2019.

The Apple TV app is itself separate from the Apple TV+ service, though you can’t watch the latter without the former, either on a TV, a phone or tablet. (Or your Apple computer.) The Apple TV app attempts, to various degrees of success, to Apple TV+ is a $4.99 monthly subscription.

Netflix Beefs Up Unscripted Slate With Gwyneth Paltrow’s Goop Docuseries and Cheer Squad

  • Post Category:Netflix

Netflix is expanding its unscripted offerings in 2020 with the launch of The Goop Lab and Cheer.

The Goop Lab takes viewers inside the life of Gwyneth Paltrow as well as her wellness compay, Goop when it hits the air Friday, January 24.

Paltrow will be front and center, but the series will also follow chief content officer of Goop, Elise Loehnen, as well as editors of the company.

The Goop Lab Poster

Based on the official trailer, the topics on offer are female sexuality, energy healing, among others.

“What we try to do at Goop is explore ideas that may seem ‘out there’ or too scary,” Loehnen explains in the trailer, before opening up about having an exorcism while trying out energy healing.

Goop exploded on to the scene in 2008, as an email newsletter filled with information on health and wellness, but thanks to Paltrow’s unique take on things, it blossomed into so much more.

Gwyneth Paltrow on The Politician

After becoming a website, it branched into its own Goop-branded products, which will likely be promoted on the series when it debuts.

Have a look at the trailer below, and then scroll down for the next big unscripted series on its way to the streamer.

The next new unscripted series comes from the people who brought us Last Chance U, and focuses on the competitive world of cheerleading.

Cheer follows the competitive cheerleaders of Navarro College in Corsicana, TX.

Led by Monica Aldama, the small junior college has won 14 National Championships since 2000.

The stakes on the mat are high, but for these athletes, the only thing more brutal than their workouts and more exceptional than their performances are the stories of adversity and triumph behind the team members themselves.

Over the course of six episodes, viewers will join the Navarro College cheerleaders as they face injuries, sacrifice, personal setbacks and triumphs, all leading up to one nail-biting and adrenaline pumping final competition at the National Championship.

Cheer Season 1 Poster

Cheer is produced by One Potato Productions, Boardwalk Pictures and Caviar. For One Potato: executive producer is Greg Whiteley, supervising producer is Adam Leibowitz, and producers are Arielle Kilker and Chelsea Yarnell.

For Boardwalk Pictures, executive producers are Andrew Fried and Dane Lillegard. For Caviar, executive producers are Jasper Thomlinson and Bert Hamelinck.

This one debuts Wednesday, January 8 and the official trailer is filled with drama as these teenagers push themselves to extremes to dominate the world of cheerleading.

Saved by the Bell Sequel: Josie Totah Set to Lead Cast

  • Post Category:Netflix

The Saved by the Bell sequel is starting to take shape.

According to THR, Josie Totah has been set as the lead cast member in the forthcoming revival.

Totah is best-known for her role on the one-and-done NBC comedy series, Champions.

Josie Totah Attends Marie Claire Event

The 18-year-old is set to play Lexi, “a beautiful, sharp-tongued cheerleader and the most popular girl at Bayside High who is both admired and feared by her fellow students,” according to the outlet.

Original Saved by the Bell stars Mario Lopez, and Elizabeth Berkley have already been confirmed to return as A.C. Slater and Jessie Spano, respectively.

The new series focuses on what happens when California Governor, Zack Morris finds himself in trouble for closing too many low-income schools.

To mitigate the concerns, he proposes that the affected students be sent to the highest-performing schools in the state — including Bayside High — the school from the original series.

Mark-Paul Gosselaar attends the Fox Winter TCA

Despite Mark-Paul Gosselaar’s character being mentioned in the plot of the series, the actor has yet to formally sign on.

Probably making things complicated is his series-regular status on ABC’s mixed-ish. That means there’s a high chance he will not be able to take part in this update.

However, Gosselaar did admit that he was not asked back for the sequel when it was ordered, so that’s a little awkward.

“Honestly, I was never approached,” Gosselaar, who played Zack, told Variety. “I woke up to the news this morning with a ‘huh’ kind of response.”

Mark-Paul Gosselaar Attends The Passage Event

It remains possible that he will stop by as a special guest star. This new take on the series is slated to premiere this year on NBC’s forthcoming streaming service, Peacock.

Totah’s TV and movie credits have been rising over the last few years. On the TV front, she most recently appeared in Netflix’s No Good Nick in a recurring role, but the series was axed after a single season.

She is also attached to star in the Disney+ original movie, Magic Camp, which is slated to debut at some point in 2020 on the new streaming service.

Josie Totah Attends Event

Peacock is set to launch in April, with originals set to join in the fun this summer. Another high-profile show in the works is the Battlestar Galactica reboot, which hails from Mr. Robot creator, Sam Esmail.
