David Tennant reveals all about his 'compelling' new thriller Deadwater Fell

  • Post category:Netflix

David Tennant tells us why his gripping four-part thriller, Deadwater Fell, is more secretive than Doctor Who or Broadchurch…

David Tennant in Deadwater Fell

A heinous crime sends shockwaves through a small, sleepy Scottish community in C4’s chilling four-part thriller, Deadwater Fell, starring David Tennant.

Set in the fictional village of Kirkdarroch, the drama follows well-liked and trustworthy GP Tom Kendrick (David Tennant) and his wife, Kate (Anna Madeley), who teaches at the local primary school.

With an enviable marriage, three young daughters, a big house and fancy car, their lives seem pretty much perfect – especially to their two best friends, teacher Jess Milner (Cush Jumbo) and her police sergeant partner, Steve Campbell (Matthew McNulty).

But after a fire breaks out at the Kendricks’ house, Kate and her children are found dead, while Tom is rushed to hospital as the sole survivor.

When more details emerge about Kate and the girls’ deaths, mistrust soon sets in within this once close-knit village, where everyone has something to hide…

We caught up with Scottish-born former Time Lord and Good Omens star, David Tennant, to find out more about Deadwater Fell…

What can we expect from Deadwater Fell?

David Tennant: “There’s something about the way that creator Daisy Coulam has written it that keeps pulling the rug out from under you. Just when you think you’ve figured out who the characters are and what they’re doing to each other, there’s another set of left turns that confound you once again. It’s so compelling and ambiguous.”

Can you tell us more about your character, Tom Kendrick?

DT: “Tom is very much the centre of the community and his public perception is very important to him. He’s popular, confidant, and has three beautiful children and a beautiful wife. To the outside world, he has the perfect life.”

What’s the state of his marriage?

DT: “Tom and Anna are like a power couple, but not every marriage is that straightforward and they have some serious fractures in theirs, which are revealed piece by piece. But all the characters are so full of contradictions and secrets that it’s hard to talk about them without giving something away.”

Deadwater Fell

Kate (Anna Madeley) and best friend Jess (Cush Jumbo)

You’re used to keeping tight-lipped about spoilers after starring in Doctor Who and Broadchurch…

DT: “Yes, but of all the shows I’ve starred in, this is the hardest to talk about. At least with Broadchurch, everyone knew it was a whodunit from episode one. With Doctor Who, the spoilers were about which monster would feature that week, or whether Rose Tyler [Billie Piper] would return. That’s all fun stuff to tease an audience, but this is much more delicate.”

How does the story unfold?

DT: “A lot of it will play out through flashbacks and viewers will come to understand more about what’s going on retrospectively. You’ll revisit scenes in episode four that you saw briefly in episode one, but you’ll see an extra five seconds, which suddenly makes things seem very different.”

Deadwater Fell

Local police sergeant Steve (Matthew McNulty)

You’re also making your debut as an executive-producer. How did you find that experience?

DT: “It was fascinating, and I was delighted to have more input at an earlier stage. I think I have a relatively light touch, though. I wasn’t shouting and telling people what to do. But I think coming at it from a slightly different perspective, as an actor, can be useful.”

Was it like a homecoming for you shooting in Scotland?

DT: “I’m always delighted to have an excuse to go back to Scotland. I was working out of Glasgow and got to see my sister, nieces and nephew. But we shot in a beautiful village called Dunlop. It’s not like where I grew up [in Paisley, outside Glasgow], but it feels like a very recognisable place.”

You recently starred as a suspect in Netflix crime drama Criminal. Do you enjoy playing ambiguous characters?

DT: “I’ve always been quite promiscuous with genres and roles. I like variety, and there’s something appealing about characters that are complicated and unknowable from an acting point of view. But if the writing is good then I’m hooked. Deadwater Fell is unlike anything I’ve seen before. Viewers will be constantly surprised!”

Deadwater Fell airs on Friday 10 January on C4 at 9pm

Raising Dion Renewed for Season 2 at Netflix

  • Post category:Netflix

Dion will continue to be raised at Netflix.

The streamer has confirmed Raising Dion has been picked up for a sophomore run mere days after it was announced it was one of the 10 Most Popular Series on Netflix.

Even more promising is that it was named the Most Popular Kids & Family Series release of 2019.

A Mother and Son on Raising Dion

Generally, Netflix makes renewal or cancellation decisions after looking at 28-day viewing data, meaning that most renewals come around one month after shows debut.

With Raising Dion premiering October 4, it was somewhat concerning that the show’s fate remained up in the air into the beginning of 2020.

As of now, the second season is slated to span eight one-hour episodes, down from Season 1’s 9 episode order.

Ja'siyah Young - Raising Dion

Carol Barbee will continue to serve as Showrunner for the sophomore run, while Michael B. Jordan, Kenny Goodman, Kim Roth, Dennis Liu, and Charles D. King’s MACRO will return as Executive Producers.

No premiere date for Raising Dion Season 2 has been set, but the series will enter production at some point in 2020.

Raising Dion follows the story of a woman named Nicole (Alisha Wainwright), who raises her son Dion (newcomer Ja’Siah Young) after the death of her husband, Mark (Michael B. Jordan).

The normal dramas of raising a son as a single mom are amplified when Dion starts to manifest several mysterious, superhero-like abilities.

Abilities on Raising Dion

Nicole must now keep her son’s gifts secret with the help of Mark’s best friend Pat (Jason Ritter), and protect Dion from antagonists out to exploit him while figuring out the origin of his abilities.

Raising Dion is certified fresh with an 82% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, as well as a 75% audience score.

It’s clear the show’s audience was passionate, but it remains to be seen how the story will continue, especially considering the sheer amount of revelations on the first season finale.

dion2

2019 was a rough year to be a Netflix original, with the streamer canceling the likes of The OA, The Netflix-Marvel TV universe, Travelers, Friends From College, One Day at a Time, Santa Clarita Diet, Chambers, Tuca and Bertie, Designated Survivor, She’s Gotta Have It, No Good Nick, and Anne With an E.

Fans distraught after ‘Friends’ left Netflix

  • Post category:Netflix

2020 giveth, and it taketh away.

The new decade is sure to bring plenty of wonderful things along with it, but when 2020 arrived a few things were lost as well. Popular sitcom Friends ended its run on Netflix as the year came to a close, and fans of the series are feeling lost without easy access to binge the show.

As people began to realize the series was no longer available to stream, panic swept the web. Many online have been expressing their anxiety over the move.

I’m over 2020 already,” one fan wrote on Twitter. “They ripped #Friends right off of #Netflix mid episode and this is the rudest way to start the new year.”

Subscribers in the U.S. were particularly incensed after discovering that the series wasn’t removed everywhere, but it is not accessible to any U.S. streamers.

Wait, the freaking UK gets to watch ‘Friends’ on @netflix until MAY, but the US loses it TOMORROW,” Twitter user @grayskymornin wrote. “That’s seriously my last straw.”

Meanwhile, fans of the sitcom in other countries are celebrating their continued access.

“It’s 2020 and FRIENDS is still on Netflix,” Twitter user @FanistonGirl wrote. “Thank you Norway.”

Where to stream Friends now

Unfortunately, fans of Friends without a box set will be on an unwilling hiatus for the next several months. The popular series isn’t streaming anywhere in the near future, at least for viewers in the U.S. The series is set to return to streaming when HBO Max launches in mid-May 2020, but until then, viewers are out of luck. For those who can hold out until May, HBO Max will cost $14.99 for a monthly subscription.

‘Raising Dion’ Season 2: Renewed at Netflix & What We Know So Far

  • Post category:Netflix

Raising Dion – Copyright. Fixed Mark Productions

It’s hard to suggest otherwise that we aren’t currently experiencing the golden age of superheroes in Hollywood. Netflix is certainly getting its own piece of that pie with titles like Umbrella Academy, and Raising Dion, amongst others. After a relatively successful first season for Raising Dion, fans will be wondering when we can expect to see the second season of the superhero drama. Allow us to help.

Raising Dion is a Netflix Original superhero-drama series based on the comic book series of the same name by author Dennis Liu. The series was originally adapted into a short film in 2015 and gained plenty of online popularity. It only took a couple of years later before Netflix ordered the series for themselves. Dennis Liu had plenty of involvement in the production of Raising Dion, he directed an episode of the series and also served as an executive producer.

Raising Dion Season 2 Netflix Renewal Status

Official Netflix Renewal Status: Renewed (Last Updated: 01/02/2019)

After a few months of waiting, Netflix finally announced that Raising Dion would be returning for a second season. In fact, it was the first official renewal of 2020.

Did Raising Dion need a second season?

100% Raising Dion needed a second season.

Aside from the cliffhanger ending showcasing who will be Dion’s enemy of season 2, our young superhero still needs to find a way to bring his dad home for good. The young man still has a lot to learn about his powers, and if he is eventually to become a superhero Dion will have to face plenty of challenges along the way.

There’s potential for Netflix to produce a very special series with Raising Dion. Like Stranger Things, subscribers become attached to the characters and actors that grow up right in front of our very eyes. Ja’Siah Young, the young actor that plays Dion, is only eight years old. If the story of Raising Dion can run for of least four seasons it’ll be fun to watch both the character and actor grow into a young man.

Did subscribers enjoy Raising Dion?

Going by the reaction on twitter plenty of subscribers loved Raising Dion!

Ratings

The series is currently sitting at a 7.1/10 on IMDb. Meanwhile, on Metacritic Raising Dion is currently at 61%.

When is the Netflix release date for Raising Dion season 2?

However long it takes Netflix to renew the series will impact the release date of the second season.

In the announcement of the season two renewal. Netflix announced that filming would begin at some point in 2020. That leads us to believe we may not see the return until at least early 2021.

Potential Release Date: Q1 or Q2 2021

Head coach Tom Allen has Indiana leaning forward into progress, finishing the regular season with its first eight-win season since 1993. The defensive-minded Hoosiers (No. 37 nationally in total defense) will try to match their school-record nine wins by winning their first bowl win since 1991. When QB Michael Penix Jr. went down for the season with a shoulder injury, Peyton Ramsey (184-266, 2,227 yards, 13 TDs, 4 interceptions) held it down. WR Whop Philyor leads the team with 69 catches for 1,001 yards and five scores.

Tennessee QB Jarrett Guarantano, who has been in head coach Jeremy Pruitt’s doghouse at various points throughout the season, threw for 1,937 yards and 16 touchdowns. WR Jauan Jennings caught 57 passes for 942 yards and eight scores. Jennings may be the team’s leader, but he isn’t their best player. DE Darrell Taylor is a fantastic athlete that turns speed to power off the edge at a high level.

Here’s how to watch the Taxslayer Gator Bowl.

How to stream Indiana vs. Tennessee live: Watch the Gator Bowl

The following services offer a one-week trial and a way to catch this week’s college football bowl action.

1) Sling TV

Sling offers a ton of live sports. Sling TV provides two base channel package options, each priced at $25 per month. Sling Orange includes three ESPN channels – including ESPN3, which will simulcast ABC sports broadcasts, while Sling Blue includes sports channels like NFL Network, NBCSN, and local channels. If you’re Team “Why Not Both,” Sling Orange + Blue combines the two for just $45 per month. Sports Extra: Sling Blue ($10 per month) also includes NFL RedZone.

Other features include a Free Cloud DVR tier for all subscribers (allowing 10 hours of recording a month), the ability to record all live linear channels, and no VOD preemption on any channels.

How to use AirTV with Sling

AirTV solves one of Sling’s biggest problems: The inability to receive all of your local channels. By purchasing a basic AirTV for $79.99 or the AirTV Player for $119.99, you can merge those local channels into your Sling TV (or on your mobile device if you have the basic AirTV). As the Daily Dot wrote in its AirTV review, “It’s practically magic.”

The basic AirTV is a dual-tuner streaming device, while the AirTV Player is basically an upgraded Chromecast that has Netflix preinstalled. You’ll still need to own an HD antenna, because even though AirTV gets you access to your local channels, it doesn’t actually physically show them to you.

But AirTV—which has no monthly fee—serves to strengthen one of Sling’s biggest weaknesses compared to other live streaming services like Hulu with Live TV and YouTube TV (which have a number of local channels).

TRY AIRTV

YouTube TV is a great option for college football: Fox, ABC, NBC, CBS, FS1, FS2, ESPN, ESPN2, ESPN News, and ESPNU are all here and offer a nearly 360 programming platter of action. (Take a look at the full list of YouTube TV channels here.)

Taxslayer Gator Bowl: Notes

Tennessee edge rusher Darrell Taylor isn’t Chase Young, which is to mean he’s not quite the finished product either Young or perhaps Zack Baun is for now. However, no one in the country plays with more hunger and violence. He’s not quite the run defender he will eventually be, but Indiana’s offensive survival will be centered on whether it can contain Taylor.

Grace and Frankie Season 6 Trailer: Welcome to Shark Tank!

  • Post category:Netflix

Grace and Frankie are leaving no stone unturned in the penultimate season of the Netflix comedy series.

The official trailer for Grace and Frankie Season 6 shows Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin’s characters pitching a brand new invention on the beloved ABC series, Shark Tank.

Mark Cuban, Barbara Corcoran, Kevin O’Leary, Lori Greiner, and Rohan Oza listen to their pitch, which is for a contraption that helps lift senior citizens off the bowl.

Grace ad Frank

They are one of the most dynamic duos on TV, and it sounds like their invention may well be a hit with their target audience.

But this wouldn’t be Grace and Frankie without some family drama, and that is on full display when Frankie drops the bombshell that Grace has married Nick.

gaf 1

While Grace may be blissfully unaware of his true nature, it seems everyone is on to Nick. Heck, the trailer strongly suggests Grace is just one of Nick’s three brides.

Even after all these seasons, Grace and Frankie continues to deliver some vintage drama, laughs, and lots of heartwarming moments.

While Netflix may be on a bit of a cancellation spree of late, Grace and Frankie has already been renewed for a seventh — and final season — meaning that the end is being mapped out right now.

gaf 2

By the time Grace and Frankie concludes, it will be Netflix’s longest-running original series ever, coming in well ahead of Orange is the New Black.

“We are both delighted and heartbroken that Grace and Frankie will be back for its seventh, though final, season,” Fonda and Tomlin said in a statement when the show’s endgame was announced.

“We’re so grateful that our show has been able to deal with issues that have really connected to our grand generation. And their kids, and amazingly their kids as well.”

gaf 3

“We’ll miss these two old gals, Grace and Frankie, as much as many of their fans will, but we’ll still be around. We’ve outlasted so many things — just hope we don’t outlast the planet.”

For now, watch the official Season 6 trailer and hit the comments with your thoughts on it. We will have a full review of the sixth season ahead of the January 15 return date set by Netflix.
