Two countries continue to supply the majority of the top 50 most viewed YouTube channels of the week. Of the 15 hubs to receive the most traffic around the globe over the past seven days, 14 fly the flag of either the United States or India. Given that binational dominance, it’s no surprise to see an Indian channel leading the field — with an American offering right behind it.
Over the most recent seven-day period measured for our charts by Gospel Stats, T-Series accumulated 100 million more views than any other YouTube destination. The Indian channel, which offers music videos from the South Asian nation’s largest record label, added 930.8 million weekly views to its massive lifetime total, which is now upwards of 123 billion. Cocomelon – Nursery Rhymes, which remains the most-viewed channel in the US, is still #2 worldwide. Its total of 830.3 million weekly views is mighty impressive, even if it does lag behind T-Series.
The only changes in this week’s global top five came in the third and fourth positions; the channels in those spots have flip-flopped since the previous rankings. This week’s third-place finisher was Vlad and Niki. The Floridian family vlog scored 711.4 million weekly views, good for an 8% week-over-week increase. Right behind it in fourth was another kid-friendly channel based in the US but with Eastern European roots — Kids Diana Show. Over the past seven days, it received 704.7 million weekly views.
This week’s fifth-place finisher, SET India, saw a 7% week-over-week viewership increase of its own. The Sony-owned, South Asia-based hub snagged a total of 677.6 million weekly views.
For those of us who don’t speak Indonesian, it’s a bit difficult to figure out how Indosiar, a Jakarta-based TV channel, ended up as the 18th-most viewed YouTube channel of the week, with 190.8 million weekly views. But thanks to a long look at some popular videos and a little (ok, a lot) of help from Google Translate, I have deduced that one of Indosiar’s smash hits is Liga Dangdut 2020, sometimes abbreviated as Lida 2020, which is rolling up views millions at a time.
Liga Dangdut appears to be a cross between a reality show, a talent show, and a variety show, with plenty of drama mixed in. One of the most popular Indosiar videos of the week speaks of the “fire of jealousy” that is apparently consuming a contestant named Billar. One of the most-liked comments on the video suggests some romantic tension between Billar and another contestant named Lesti. Based on all this, I am able to conclude that Indonesia’s reality shows are a lot like America’s.
Fueled by Liga Dangdut clips, the Indosiar channel boasted a 114% week-over-week increase that helped it move up from 84th place. Will it continue to climb over the next seven days? We’ll find out on the 21st.
